Purpose & Context
The Enterprise Information Display System (E-IDS) Program is in the process of replacing all existing NAS Information Display System (NIDS) equipment. Approximately 496 NIDS installations across various Air Traffic Control Towers (ATCT) and Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) facilities require KVM extenders where Keyboard, Video, and Mouse/Trackball (KVM) cable lengths exceed accepted standards. These extenders provide the necessary interface between the NIDS workstation and the NIDS display at air traffic control positions.
Justification for Single Source
The original NIDS System was designed and produced by ADBSafegate. With the NIDS workstation monitor no longer available, the FAA NIDS Second Level Engineering Team has selected the E-IDS Viewsonic Monitor (TD2455) as an alternate. To ensure compatibility at long distances, a NIDS KVM extender was customized by ADBSafegate to work specifically with the E-IDS Monitor. This new NIDS KVM extender is an ADBSafegate proprietary design and is exclusively available through their company, making them the only supplier in the market for these compatible KVM Extenders.
