Quick Summary
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD), Influenza Division (ID) intends to award a sole source Firm-fixed-price purchase order to The University of Georgia Research Foundation, Inc. (UGARF). This action is to maintain regular access to UGARF's Advanced Photon Source (APS) - SER-CAT beam lines for critical influenza virus research. Responses from interested parties are due by July 5, 2026.
Scope of Work
UGARF will provide access to their APS - SER-CAT beam lines for sample processing and data collection. This includes the use of highly specialized equipment and support from onsite qualified laboratory personnel. The services involve collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating structural data from viral proteins derived from pandemic or seasonal influenza viruses.
Contract & Timeline

Justification for Sole Source
UGARF is identified as the only source providing the most advanced macromolecular crystallography capabilities currently available in the United States. The use of alternative, lower-intensity beamlines would result in reduced data quality and diminished analytical capability. Furthermore, UGARF guarantees beam access during public health emergencies, which is crucial for urgent influenza response and preparedness activities. Transitioning to an alternative facility is not feasible due to significant compatibility and transition limitations.
