Quick Summary

The Department of the Army has issued a Special Notice announcing the availability of Warped Alloy, a cutting-edge software framework for Software Defined Radio (SDR) signal chains. This framework enables dynamic adjustment of SDR capabilities based on the RF environment and real-time protocol-level responses. The Army seeks to foster collaboration with industry partners to integrate this technology, enhancing SDR systems' adaptability and operational effectiveness.

Purpose & Scope

Warped Alloy is designed to advance SDR technology by providing a flexible framework for radio frequency operations. Key features include rapid reconfiguration of RF signal processing chain modules within the SDR's Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), and the ability to rapidly develop and implement FPGA-based Physical Layer (PHY) and Media Access Control (MAC) for various signals and waveforms.

Elements available to industry partners include:

  • FPGA Top-Level Framework: Facilitates communication between the General-Purpose Processor (GPP) and signal modules.
  • Application Programming Interface (API): A C-based API for creating SDR-agnostic applications.
  • Transport Interface (TI): Dynamic or static C libraries for efficient message transport.
  • Exemplar Data Generation/Consumption Module: A testing tool for hardware-specific implementations.
  • Comprehensive Documentation: Including development environment and developer's guides.

Access Requirements

To access the Warped Alloy software, interested parties must first complete and submit a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) (Attachment 1). An authorized representative must complete specific fields, sign, and identify all contractor users. The completed NDA should be returned to usarmy.meade.7-sig-cmd.mbx.warped-alloy-software@army.mil.

Upon NDA completion, individuals identified as contractor representatives/users can create an account on the Test Resource Management Center (TRMC) website. Attachment 2 provides a step-by-step guide for TRMC account creation, DoD PKI authentication, and accessing the 'WarpedAlloy' repository. Adherence to strict confidentiality, distribution, and security protocols outlined in the NDA is mandatory.

Contract & Timeline

  • Type: Special Notice (Information Sharing)
  • Set-Aside: None
  • Published: January 23, 2026
  • Response Due: No specific deadline for access, but NDA submission is required.

Additional Notes

The Government retains all rights to modifications made to the original framework. This opportunity is managed by the Department of the Army, W6QK ACC-APG, with a place of performance at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD.
