Quick Summary
The Department of the Navy, through NAVSUP Weapon Systems Support Mechanicsburg, is soliciting proposals for Heavy Hexagon Nuts. This is a Total Small Business Set-Aside opportunity for the supply of critical "Special Emphasis" material, essential for shipboard systems. The solicitation emphasizes stringent quality assurance, material traceability, and comprehensive certification requirements. Proposals are due by February 3, 2026.
Scope of Work
This opportunity requires the supply of Heavy Hexagon Nuts in accordance with Naval Sea System Drawing 845-6351932 Item 75 and MIL-DTL-1222. The material is designated as "Special Emphasis" (Level I/SUBSAFE), indicating a high criticality where failure could lead to serious injury, loss of life, or loss of vital shipboard systems. Contractors must provide one additional fastener for each uniquely identified heat/lot for traceability.
Key Requirements
- Material: ASTM-A194, Grade 4 or Grade 7.
- Manufacturing: Internal threads must be formed by cutting; cold forming is not acceptable.
- Testing & Certification: Required for Liquid Penetrant Inspection or Magnetic Particle Inspection (Wet Method), with performance per T9074-AS-GIB-010/271 and sampling/acceptance per MIL-DTL-1222. A Certificate of Compliance is mandatory for Special Emphasis Material.
- Quality System: Contractors must maintain a quality system compliant with ISO-9001 (amplified by ISO-10012 or ANSI-Z540.3 with ISO-17025) or an acceptable alternative of MIL-I-45208 (with MIL-STD-45662). Government Quality Assurance at source will be performed.
- Traceability: Strict traceability is required from material to certification test reports, identified by unique numbers (heat-lot, heat-treat). Re-identification and re-certification are necessary if material properties are altered during processing. All metallic material and certification data will undergo 100% inspection for traceability and completeness.
- Other: Materials must be mercury-free. This is a "DO" rated order for national defense use, issued under Emergency Acquisition Flexibilities (EAF).
