Scope of Work

This solicitation is for the manufacture and supply of Nut, Hexagon, Self-Locking (MS17828-6C). These nuts are designated as SPECIAL EMPHASIS material (Level I, Scope of Certification, or Quality Assured) due to their use in crucial shipboard systems where failure could lead to serious personnel injury, loss of life, or loss of vital shipboard systems. Non-metallic materials must meet NAVSEA SS800-AG-MAN-010/P-9290 toxicity and flammability requirements.

Key Requirements

  • Materials: QQ-N-281 (Class A or B) for the nut, and ASTM-D4066 (Group 01, Class 1, Grade 1) for the self-locking element. All material must be mercury-free.
  • Testing & Certification: Required tests include Dye Penetrant Inspection, Quality Conformance Tests, and First Article Testing (FAT) per NASM25027. FAT may be satisfied by prior qualification documentation.
  • Traceability: Critical for Level I/SUBSAFE systems, requiring unique traceability numbers (heat-lot, heat-treat) on material and certification reports. One additional fastener per heat/lot is required for traceability.
  • Marking: Fasteners must be permanently marked per MIL-STD-792 and NASM17828 with manufacturer's identification, material symbol, and heat/lot traceability code.
