Quick Summary

The Department of Energy's Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab), through Fermi Forward Discovery Group, LLC (FFDG), is soliciting proposals for the ORBE Magnet Coil Assembly. This firm-fixed price opportunity seeks a contractor to fabricate one prototype and seven production ORBE Magnet Coil Assemblies for the Proton Improvement Plan Phase II (PIP-II) project. Proposals are due by 5pm Central on April 7, 2026.

Scope of Work

The contractor will be responsible for the fabrication, quality control, and delivery of ORBUMP Coil Assemblies, specifically:

  • One (1) Prototype ORBE Magnet Coil Assembly (Part No. F10120746 Rev B).
  • Seven (7) Production ORBE Magnet Coil Assemblies (Part No. F10120746 Rev B).
  • All work must adhere to Specification/SOW ED0044582 Rev A.
  • Key tasks include manufacturing individual components, creating a coil assembly brazing fixture, vacuum oven brazing, post-braze machining, and comprehensive Quality Control (QC) testing and inspections.
  • The contractor must source all necessary materials and tooling, provide documentation on testing and material certification, and transfer all developed unique tooling, drawings, and 3D models to FFDG upon completion.
  • Special requirements include using OFHC C10200 copper alloy, vacuum oven brazing per AWS C3.6M/C3.6, and machining after brazing to meet specified tolerances.
  • Subcontractor Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) is required, including non-invasive brazed joint tests, resistance measurements, hydrostatic tests, and hydraulic flow tests. FFDG will conduct Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
  • Each coil must be serialized, and a 12-month warranty is required after component delivery.
