Quick Summary

The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is conducting a Request for Information (RFI) to identify AI-powered predictive analytics solutions. The goal is to enhance FSIS's ability to prioritize inspections, allocate resources, and oversee food safety operations. FSIS is seeking insights from industry experts on existing commercial software platforms, preferably on the Azure Government Cloud, that can be customized. Responses are due by March 14, 2026.

Purpose

FSIS aims to modernize its decision-making processes, improve food safety outcomes, and optimize operational efficiency by leveraging advanced AI technologies. This RFI seeks to move beyond current reliance on numeric risk scores and manual analysis.

Scope of Interest

FSIS is interested in solutions that can:

  • Incorporate AI-driven risk scoring using structured and unstructured data, integrating external data sources (e.g., weather, illness trends, recall history).
  • Provide advanced analytical features such as sentiment/contextual analysis on inspection narratives, pattern detection, predictive resource planning, and scenario simulation.
  • Offer user interfaces and tools including role-specific dashboards, conversational AI assistants, and mobile/field applications for inspectors.
  • Ensure governance and security through explainable AI, audit logs, user permissions, and robust data security measures.

FSIS is not seeking to develop AI software from scratch but rather to enhance and customize existing commercial platforms.

Requested Information

Respondents should provide detailed information on proposed solutions, case studies, past performance, cost models, government FTE time estimates, recommended Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and potential implementation barriers.
