Quick Summary
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), specifically the Northport Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC), has issued a Special Notice indicating its intent to award a sole source contract for specialized cytopathology services with comprehensive testing for thyroid nodules. The VA intends to award an Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract to CYTOPATH BIOPSY LAB INC. for these services. This action is justified under FAR 6.103-1, citing "Only One Responsible Source." Responses from interested parties are due by June 24, 2026, at 10:00 AM EST.
Scope of Work
The Northport VAMC requires specialized cytopathology services for the evaluation of thyroid nodules with indeterminate cytology (Atypia of Undetermined Significance (AUS)/ Follicular Lesion of Undetermined Significance (FLUS)) and related categories. Key requirements include:
- Cytopathology evaluation of fine needle aspiration (FNA) samples.
- Reflex molecular testing for indeterminate cases.
- Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) of DNA and RNA from thyroid nodule FNA material.
- Analysis of thyroid-related mutations, gene fusions, copy number alterations, and expression alterations.
- Delivery of an integrated Positive/Negative risk classifier.
- Compatibility with existing Veterans' historical molecular results. The facility currently utilizes the proprietary ThyroSeq® Genomic Classifier and asserts that no alternative test meets its minimum requirements for compatibility and seamless integration into its existing diagnostic workflow, as using a different platform would produce non-comparable results and increase clinical risk.
