Quick Summary

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), specifically the VHA RPO West NCO 17 Health Care Resources Branch, has issued a Solicitation for Locum Gastroenterology (GI) Physician Services. This opportunity seeks to secure 4-5 Board Certified/Board Eligible GI physicians to provide on-site, on-call, and call-back services for beneficiaries at the Audie L. Murphy VA Medical Center in San Antonio, TX, and potentially the Kerrville VA Medical Center, TX. The contract is anticipated to be a Fixed-Price Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ). The acquisition is unrestricted. The solicitation due date has been extended, and questions are due by March 31, 2026, 2:00 PM ET.

Scope of Work

The contractor will provide comprehensive Gastroenterology services, including clinic appointments, inpatient consultations, and endoscopic procedures such as EGD (diagnostic, biopsies, banding, foreign body removal, PEG placement, bleeding treatment, dilation), flexible sigmoidoscopies, and colonoscopies (diagnostic, bleeding treatment, polypectomy, colonic decompression). ERCP/EUS procedures are not required. Services must meet national standards and adhere to VA Directives, policies, HIPAA, and infection control. Key personnel must be Board Certified/Board Eligible in GI with current BLS/ACLS certifications. Anticipated workload includes approximately 10 outpatient procedures per day per provider, 5-10 inpatient consults, and 1-10 inpatient procedures. Call-back events are estimated at four per month, with about one per week requiring on-site attendance for urgent/emergent endoscopies. Approximately 60% of procedures require anesthesia, and 40% moderate sedation.
