MARCORSYSCOM seeks containers compatible with military and commercial transportation assets, including shipboard handling, FMF deployment, and garrison use. Key requirements include the ability to be joined to form a 20 Foot Equivalent Unit (TEU) ISO module and support internal cargo storage features like shelving and rails.

Specific technical requirements include:

  • Intermodal transport capability and a minimum 15-year service life.
  • Lockable, reusable, weatherproof, and vented, with an operational temperature range of -25 to 125 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Conformance to ANSI/ISO standards, compatibility with merchant fleet containerships, and multiple cargo access points.
  • Compatibility with U.S. Navy amphibious and commercial ships, four-way forklift handling, and external dimensions conforming to a 20-foot ISO envelope.
  • Meeting US highway legal limits, Gabarit International de Chargement outline for rail transport, and transportability by Marine Corps heavy lift rotary wing aircraft and Air Force prime mission aircraft (MIL-STD-1791).
  • Meeting MIL-STD-810 rail impact test, military standard lift and tiedown provisions (MIL-STD-209), and maritime shipping inspection criteria.
  • Construction features include all-steel monocoque (Corten steel preferred), corrugated sides/roof, swing doors, optional roll-up doors, 4-way forklift pockets, horizontal twist locks for coupling, at least two vents, standardized paint, vertical E-Track sections, and tie-down rings.
  • Approximate dimensions: 4' 9" x 6' 10" x 8' 0"; Payload Capacity: 9,400 lbs; Internal Cubic Capacity: 217 Cu. Ft.
  • Standards and Certification: ISO for high-stacking (9-high), ISO 668, ISO 1496, and CSC certification.
