Qualification Details

Fit reasons
  • NAICS alignment with historical contract wins in similar service areas.
  • Scope strongly matches core technical capabilities and delivery model.
Risks
  • Past performance thresholds may require one additional teaming partner.
  • Potential clarification needed on staffing minimums before bid/no-bid.
Next steps

Quick Summary

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), through its Strategic Technology Office (STO), has issued a Special Notice / Request for Information (RFI) titled "Rapid Reconstitution of Space Capabilities." This RFI seeks technical solutions to quickly restore critical space services following attacks or degradation of existing space assets, addressing the increasing threat from adversarial counterspace capabilities. Responses are due July 8, 2026, at 5:00 PM ET.

Purpose & Scope

The U.S. relies heavily on space assets for economic prosperity, national security, and critical infrastructure. With the rise of adversarial counterspace capabilities, there is a strategic need to rapidly respond to disrupted assets and reconstitute degraded space capabilities. This RFI aims to gather information on effective response mechanisms to restore space services to minimum operational levels or higher.

DARPA is interested in solutions related to:

  • Space Vehicle (SV) components: Satellite bus and payload.
  • Launch Vehicle (LV) technologies.
  • SV-LV integration.
  • Concept of Operations (CONOPS) for rapid reconstitution.

Specific areas of interest include modularity, rapid manufacturing, reconfigurable/software-defined satellites, multifunctional/multirole satellites, radiation-hardened electronics, VLEO technologies, spacecraft survivability, cost-effective spacecraft for large constellations, alternative PNT, and supply chain optimization. Respondents are asked to provide a "white space chart" comparing their proposed technology with existing solutions.

Contract Details & Submission

  • Type: Special Notice / Request for Information (RFI). This is for information and program planning only; it is not a solicitation for proposals, and no awards will be made.
  • Agency: Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)
  • Set-Aside: None specified. Participation is invited from universities, UARCs, FFRDCs, private/public companies, and government research laboratories.
  • Response Due: July 8, 2026, 5:00 PM ET.
  • Published Date: June 12, 2026.

Submission Requirements

Responses should be a maximum of 8 pages, single-spaced, 12-point font, including a cover sheet, technical description (with the white space chart), and bibliography. Submissions can be sent via appropriate channels; for questions or large files (>10 MB), email DARPA-SN-26-42@darpa.mil.
