Questions & Answers / Clarifications

This document contains responses to Request for Information (RFI) questions related to the "Renovate Interventional Radiology Suites" project (PROJ: 573-22-103).

• Structural Steel Design: The specification regarding delegated design for structural steel connections is a standard clause. The Engineer of Record is responsible for evaluating existing conditions and designing any necessary modifications or new structural steel. Delegated items include steel joist framing, metal stud framing, pre-engineered metal stairs/railings, and Unistrut framing.
• Acoustical Ceiling System: A sealed acoustical ceiling system is not required unless specifically detailed. Bidders should follow the plan for procedure rooms.
• Nurse Call System: The VA prefers ASCOM as the nurse call supplier, despite Amendment 002 referencing Rauland.
• Commissioning: The Architect/Engineer (A/E) will provide commissioning services; the General Contractor (GC) is not responsible for these costs.
• Asbestos and Lead Paint Survey: The quantity of ACM pipe insulation (45) is measured in linear feet (LF).
• Site Visit Access: Photos for Room #C071-1 and as-built drawings for the existing SPS Renovation and existing Reflected Ceiling Plans (RCP) for basement areas will be provided by the VA.
• Negative Air Exhaust: The VA typically allows HEPA filtered negative air machines to connect to HVAC exhaust grilles if an outside air route is unavailable. An approved ICRA plan is required.
• SPS Department Operations: The department operates 24/7 with peak activity Monday-Friday. Disruptive work must follow Div. 01 requirements.
• SPS Area Shutdowns: Full shutdowns of SPS functional areas are not assumed in the base bid. Partial closures require pre-approval and must maintain hospital operations. Phasing plans for night/weekend work, temporary protections, and ICRA/ILSM measures must be submitted.
• SPS Access Limitations: Access will be VA-escorted. Bidders must follow VA security, ICRA/ILSM controls, clean/dirty separations, and delivery staging per Div. 01. Work-hour limits, noise/vibration controls, and infection control barriers must be included in the phasing plan.
