Quick Summary
The Missile Defense Agency (MDA) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) for Missile Defense System-Next (MDS-Next). This RFI seeks innovative capability solutions for Strategic Architecture Thrust Areas to inform future development and investment opportunities in response to the 2035+ projected threat environment. Responses will guide prioritization of capability areas and potential Program Objective Memorandum (POM) investment decisions.
Purpose & Scope
MDA is conducting a strategic planning effort to advance missile defense capabilities for the 2035+ timeframe. This RFI aims to evaluate solution approaches that can address identified Strategic Architecture Thrust Areas. Respondents are encouraged to propose fundamentally different capability constructs, architectures, or operational concepts, rather than incremental improvements. Submissions should focus on capability-level approaches and architectural concepts that align with Thrust Areas, address 2035+ threats, and demonstrate potential for improved operational effectiveness.
Key Information Requested
Submissions should clearly describe:
- The proposed capability or architectural concept and its function.
- How it operates within the broader system.
- Its novelty or improvement over current/planned capabilities.
- Estimated timeline for initial operational fielding and key milestones.
- Applicability across multiple mission areas or threat sets.
- Integration with existing and planned missile defense architectures. Key elements to address include Strategic Architecture Thrust Area Alignment, Capability Approach, Operational Impact, Technical Feasibility and Maturity (TRL), Cost Considerations (ROM estimate), Integration Considerations, and Small Business Considerations.
