Quick Summary
The National Science Foundation (NSF), specifically its Directorate for Technology, Innovation and Partnerships (TIP), has issued a Request for Information (RFI) for the development of an NSF Tech Labs Launchpad. This initiative seeks input from experienced organizations to inform the creation of a Launchpad designed to accelerate the launch and success of NSF Tech Labs teams. This RFI is for information gathering and planning purposes only and does not constitute a solicitation or request for proposals. Responses are due by April 15, 2026, at 3:00 PM EST.
Purpose & Scope
NSF TIP is exploring models (single-performer or ecosystem/network) for the Launchpad, which will provide tailored, high-touch support. The services expected from a Launchpad provider include:
- Administrative & Organizational Support: Fiscal sponsorship, back-office services (HR, payroll, legal, IT), entity formation, and operational infrastructure.
- Leadership & Coaching: Mentorship, coaching, topical programming, talent acquisition, and assistance with governance and advisory boards.
- Intellectual Property (IP) Support: Guidance on IP and technology transfer policies, and structuring licensing agreements.
- Strategic Research Guidance: Assistance in refining technical vision, setting milestones, and structuring reporting.
- Partnership & Fundraising: Support in developing resource plans and identifying strategic partners.
- Peer Network: Fostering a learning community and connecting teams with industry leaders and talent. NSF is not seeking a technology-first platform, standalone website, or holding company; the focus is on experienced organizations providing direct support.
