- Past performance thresholds may require one additional teaming partner.
- Potential clarification needed on staffing minimums before bid/no-bid.
Next steps
Validate eligibility requirements, assign capture owner, and schedule partner outreach to confirm teaming strategy before submission planning.
Quick Summary
The Department of the Army, specifically the Joint Project Manager for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Protection (JPM CBRN P), is conducting a Request for Information (RFI) to identify technologies for an Autonomous Decontamination System (ADS). This market survey seeks automated and/or semi-autonomous capabilities, including tethered and untethered drones, to support chemical and biological warfare agent contamination mitigation operations. Responses are due February 20, 2026.
Purpose & Scope
This RFI is a market research tool to determine the availability and adequacy of potential sources for planning purposes only. The ADS Program Office aims to develop, procure, and field a capability that leverages robotics/drones to decontaminate military vehicles, critical infrastructure, and terrain. The goal is to enable squad-sized elements to provide a platoon-sized decontamination capability, thereby reducing manpower, optimizing resources, and mitigating warfighter exposure.
The RFI specifically seeks information on drones capable of spraying decontaminant and executing decontamination missions. These systems should be transportable by, and potentially integrated with, military vehicles such as the Light Medium Tactical Vehicle (LMTV) or Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV).
Key functions the ADS will be required to perform include:
- Conducting a pre-wash of contaminated vehicles or equipment.
- Executing precision contamination mapping and tracking the contamination footprint.
- Applying decontaminant precisely to contaminated areas.
- Conducting a post-wash and post-decontamination assessment.
Requested Information
Vendors with products meeting the criteria are requested to submit a short summary (no more than 10 pages) detailing their product's capabilities. This summary should include:
- Company Information: Name, address, Point of Contact (POC) with phone number, product name, estimated cost per system, and required post-procurement support/maintenance costs.
- System Overview: Description, components, operational concept, and estimated Technology Readiness Level (TRL)/Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL).
- Drone Platform Capabilities: Platform type, flight time/endurance, payload capacity, operational range, data link performance, and navigation/positioning technology.
- Decontamination & Sprayer System: Spraying mechanism, compatibility with various decontaminants (e.g., High Test Hypochlorite (HTH), M333 Joint General-Purpose Decontaminant), and methods for pre-wash, post-wash, and post-decontamination assessment.
- Autonomy & Sensing: Sensor suite, ability to conduct autonomous contamination mitigation, and levels of autonomy.
- Logistics & Integration: Overall system size and weight, detailed power requirements (primary source, specifications, battery details, tethered system needs), transportability, setup/teardown time, personnel, consumables, interfaces, electromagnetic survivability, and repairability/maintainability.
- Operational Environment: Operating temperature range, weather limitations, and other environmental restrictions.
- Commercialization & Data Rights: Identification of Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) status and any data rights assertions.
