Quick Summary
Brookhaven Science Associates, LLC (BSA), operator of Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) under a Prime Contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is seeking quotes for a Noise Cancellation System for a new scanning transmission electron microscope (STEM) at the Molecular Foundry at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBL) in Berkeley, CA. This procurement is for full and open competition. Quotes are due by January 31, 2026, at 5:00 PM (MT).
Scope of Work
The contractor will provide all labor, services, materials, and equipment for a noise cancellation system designed to reduce background electromagnetic fields (DC and AC) to ensure optimal performance of the newly installed STEM. Key requirements include:
- Mitigating fields at the field emission source and GIF without adversely affecting the TEM column.
- Mitigating fluctuations from DC to a maximum AC frequency of 5 kHz with a cancellation factor of at least 100x at 60 Hz.
- Active compensation for magnetic fields along three orthogonal axes with double loop geometry.
- A minimum 12-month warranty period following installation and commissioning.
- Offerors must have previous experience designing and installing field cancellation systems for Thermo Fisher Scientific Spectra 300 and/or Spectra Ultra STEMs, and provide references for at least three comparable successful installations.
- The contractor must be able to operate within a DOE National Laboratory environment and have a base of operations within 100 miles of LBNL to facilitate installation and service.
