Quick Summary

Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (FNAL) is conducting market research via this Request for Information (RFI) to identify vendors capable of designing, fabricating, and potentially installing specialized access platforms for the MAGIS-100 experiment. The project is located at the Fermilab site in Batavia, Illinois, and involves structures within a 100m deep shaft. Responses are due March 5, 2026.

Scope of Work

The project requires the design and fabrication of 22 total platforms across five distinct types:

  • Split-level laser transport system platform (1): Load rating ≥750 lbs per level.
  • Ground-level platform (1): Load rating ≥1,500 lbs.
  • Atom source landing platforms (3): Load rating ≥750 lbs.
  • Atom source platforms (3): Load rating ≥3,000 lbs with removable parts.
  • Connection node platforms (14): Load rating ≥1,000 lbs.

Key Technical Requirements:

  • Compliance with OSHA safety standards (toe boards, railings, etc.).
  • Material Restrictions: Use of magnetic materials is restricted within 2ft of the experiment beam tube; acceptable materials include non-magnetic stainless steel, aluminum, copper, and titanium.
  • Platforms must accommodate access via ladders, scaffolds, or baskets and allow clearance for crane activity.

Contract & Timeline

  • Type: Request for Information (RFI) / Market Research
  • Set-Aside: None specified
  • Questions Due: February 17, 2026
  • Response Due: March 5, 2026, by 5:00 PM CT
