Quick Summary
The Military Sealift Command (MSC) is issuing a Request for Information (RFI) to identify potential sources for Standard ISO containers to be outfitted as HAZMAT storage modules for its fleet of 14 T-AKE Class ships. This market research aims to gather information on Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) and custom solutions, Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) pricing, and lead times for fleet-wide replacement of existing modules. Responses are due by February 5, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. EST.
Purpose & Scope
MSC seeks to replace end-of-life HAZMAT storage modules on USCG certificated, ABS Classed Cargo Ships. The RFI focuses on identifying capable sources for ISO containers designed to store flammable materials, including paint. The goal is to inform future acquisition strategies. The place of performance is Norfolk, VA.

- Compliance: Must meet American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Marine Vessel Rules (MVR) and 46 CFR requirements for paint lockers on ships with SOLAS Certification and ABS classification as Cargo Ships.
- Technical Specifications:
- Power: Not to exceed 50 full load amps.
- Fire Safety: Fixed, total-flooding firefighting system (manually actuated, interlocked with ventilation), junction box for shipboard fire detection.
- Internal Storage: Shelving for segregated HAZMAT; no barrels or spill containment sump required.
- Design Approval: ABS approval for design drawings and supporting calculations (including heating/cooling, fire detection/suppression, 24" deep shelving) is required prior to fabrication.
