Solicitation / RFP / RFQ

This document is a Request for Information (RFI) from ARM seeking interest from companies for the construction of five mobile laboratories. These laboratories are intended to replace existing atmospheric observatory capability units and will be constructed from standard 20-foot ISO shipping containers, modified to support various instruments with power, lighting, and climate control.

• Container Specifications: Standard ISO twenty-foot shipping containers with double doors. Modifications must comply with ISO and CSC/46 U.S.C. Chapter 805 requirements, and modified containers must be recertified.

• Electrical: UL listed and NEC compliant. Includes a 600V, 100A safety switch, 25kVA transformer, 100A load center with surge suppressor and watt node, EMT conduit for all circuits, twenty 120V 20-amp receptacle circuits, two 240V 20A and two 30A circuits, outdoor receptacles, indoor/outdoor lighting circuits, four 48" linear LED interior lights, front vestibule LED light, and smoke detector.

• Climate Control: Mini-split heat pump systems (LG KSSAE181A or equivalent), with two systems per container. Condensers to be mounted on a rack allowing container doors to close for transport. Insulated line sets and external condensate drainage required.

• Construction:

  • Walls/Ceiling: 1-1/2" square tubing furring, filled with closed-cell foam insulation. Walls to have FRP laminated plywood with aluminum/PVC trim. End walls to have 4" c-purlin framing, 14ga steel covering, and closed-cell insulation.
  • Doors: Marine-type aluminum weatherproof entry door with a minimum 12" shatter-resistant window.
  • Fixtures: May include cabinets, shelving, work desks, or channel strut, to be provided and installed securely.
  • Penetrations: Framed with 1-1/4" angle steel, welded. Removable 3/16" steel cover plates.
  • Bottom: Insulated floor cavity with closed cell foam.
  • Finishing: Marine-grade 2-part primer and top coat for exterior; 2-part commercial grade floor epoxy for interior floors; 2-part primer for unexposed steel.

• Guardrail System: Removable guardrails constructed from 1-1/2" aluminum tubing and 'speed rail' clamps, meeting OSHA 1910.29 requirements. Accommodates grating for a work platform. Includes an aluminum stairwell for access.

• Documentation: As-built drawings detailing penetrations, fixtures, lights, outlets, and electrical circuits.
