Quick Summary

The US Air Force Academy (USAFA) Chemistry Department is conducting market research through this Request for Information (RFI) to identify qualified vendors capable of providing a Simultaneous Dynamic Scanning Calorimeter/Thermogravimetric Analyzer (SDT) instrument. This RFI is for planning purposes only and does not constitute a Request for Quote. Responses are due by May 29, 2026.

Scope of Work

The USAFA Chemistry Department requires a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) SDT instrument capable of simultaneously collecting Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) data. The instrument must measure heat flow, weight changes, temperature, and heat capacity of samples. Key technical specifications include:

  • Temperature Range: Ambient to 1500 °C
  • Sample Weight Capacity: 200 mg
  • Weighing Precision: ± 0.1%
  • DSC Sensitivity: 4 µW (50°C – 1000°C)
  • Features: Horizontal null-balance thermobalance, wire-wound furnace, integrated purge gas, autosampler (at least 30 samples), operating software with automatic calibration and updates.
  • Software: Unlimited installations, .pdf generator, lifetime updates, unattended calibration, legacy data integration.
  • Certification: NRTL certified (OSHA standards).
  • Additional: Installation, certification, training, US-made PC/monitor, 1-year warranty, 5-year extended service for furnace failure.

Known capable models include the TA Instruments Discovery SDT 650, Mettler Toledo TGA/DSC 3+, and Netzsch STA 509 Jupiter, or equal. The delivery location is USAF Academy, CO 80840.
