Quick Summary

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Tactical Technology Office (TTO), has issued Special Notice (SN) 26-53, a Request for Information (RFI), to understand the U.S. industry and supplier base for air-to-air weapons' avionics and sensor technologies. The goal is to identify capabilities that could enable the rapid development of affordable, scalable, low-cost weapons and shorten integration periods. Responses are due by April 22, 2026, at 4:00 PM ET.

Purpose & Scope

This RFI seeks information on readily available, commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) components for avionics, sensor, and guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) subsystems. DARPA is also interested in emerging technologies for rapid integration and testing of these subsystems, as well as anticipated avionics system performance for counter-air engagements, including the reliability of COTS components. This is for information and program planning only and is not a solicitation for proposals.

Submission Requirements

White papers should not exceed seven (7) single-sided pages (updated by Amendment 01), using 11-point font and 1" margins. Submissions must be in English, in Microsoft Word or PDF format, and clearly labeled with the DARPA special notice number, respondent organization, and white paper title. Non-proprietary information is encouraged, but proprietary data must be clearly marked. Unclassified responses should be emailed to DARPA-SN-26-53@darpa.mil. Classified submissions require adherence to specific security protocols outlined in Attachment 1. A template for submissions is provided in Attachment 2.

Eligibility & Important Notes

Submissions are invited from universities, UARCs, FFRDCs, private/public companies, and government research laboratories engaged in related research. This RFI is voluntary; DARPA will not reimburse costs incurred in responding, nor is it obligated to acknowledge receipt or provide feedback. Submission contents may be reviewed by government partners and SETA contractors under NDA.
