Fit reasons
- NAICS alignment with historical contract wins in similar service areas.
- Scope strongly matches core technical capabilities and delivery model.
Risks
- Past performance thresholds may require one additional teaming partner.
- Potential clarification needed on staffing minimums before bid/no-bid.
Next steps
Validate eligibility requirements, assign capture owner, and schedule partner outreach to confirm teaming strategy before submission planning.
Quick Summary
The Department of the Army, specifically Tobyhanna Army Depot (TYAD), is conducting a Request for Information (RFI) to identify potential sources for a Robotic Wire Harness Manufacturing Solution. This market research seeks capabilities to provide one Prototype/Low-Rate Initial Production (LRIP) machine and one Full Rate Production machine, along with associated documentation, software, and engineering services. Responses are due by February 12, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. EST.
Scope of Work
TYAD requires two distinct robotic wire harness manufacturing machines:
- Prototype/LRIP Machine: Designed for handling various insulated, stranded, bare, and coated wires, including twisted pair, coax, and shielded data wires. It must support terminations (IDC, Crimp, Poke home, Splice) and protection methods (adhesives, potting, tape, films, clips). Mechanical specifications include dimensions (2.3m L x 2.2m D x 2.3m H), weight (2000 kg), specific axis limits, and a 3-position tool change capacity (option for 10). Environmental, electrical (240V, 32A, 50-60 Hz, single phase), and pneumatic parameters are also detailed.
- Full Rate Production Machine: Similar robotic capabilities to the LRIP machine but with larger mechanical parameters (5.2m L x 3.0m D x 3.1m H), higher weight (6000 kg), extended axis limits, and a 3-position tool change capacity (option for 10). Electrical requirements are 400V, 32A, 50-60 Hz, three phase. Environmental and pneumatic parameters are consistent with the LRIP machine.
For both machines, the requirement includes:
- Documentation: Operator's Manual, Maintenance Manual, Installation Documentation, and Training Material.
- Software: Compatible CAD/CAM software to support the equipment post-processor.
- Engineering Services: Operator and engineering training (including advanced production-focused training), application engineers, field support, and support for End Effector Development.
