Quick Summary
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), under the Department of Commerce, has issued a Sources Sought / Request for Information (RFI) for Safety Shower and Eyewash Corrections Phase 1 at its Boulder, Colorado Campus. This RFI seeks to identify qualified contractors for a design-build effort to bring existing emergency eyewash and safety shower fixtures into compliance with ANSI Z358.1-2014 standards. Responses are due by February 12, 2026, at 4:00 PM Mountain Time.
Purpose
This Sources Sought is for information and planning purposes only and does not constitute a solicitation. The Government is seeking to identify capable contractors for a design-build construction project focused on correcting deficiencies in site safety shower and eyewash systems across multiple buildings on the NIST Boulder Campus. The goal is to ensure all repaired and new systems comply with ANSI Z358.1-2014.
Scope of Work
The project involves a Design-Build effort to correct safety shower and eyewash deficiencies. The scope includes:
- Base Scope (Building 22): Adding hot water to an existing eyewash/shower unit in Room 1203, requiring plumbing modifications for tempered water.
- Option 1 (Building 25): Bringing existing eyewash/shower units in Room 1300 into compliance and adding a new ANSI Z358.1-2014 compliant eyewash fixture in Room 117.
- Option 2 (Building 2): Installing a new tempered water loop to serve 25 existing safety fixtures, ensuring temperature and flow compliance. All work must minimize disruption to occupants and infrastructure, with major utility outages limited to 8 hours during semi-annual shutdowns. The contractor will be responsible for professional architectural and engineering services, construction plans, and specifications.
