Scope of Work

The contractor will conduct a Class III intensive field inventory of approximately 2305.6 acres within the Scratchgravel Hills area, located 7.5 miles northwest of Helena, MT. The primary objective is to identify, evaluate, and report on prehistoric and historic cultural resources on public lands to meet National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) obligations and support future recreation and fuels reduction projects. Key tasks include:

  • Performing site file and literature searches.
  • Identifying and evaluating cultural resources based on surface indications, adhering to BLM guidance and National Register Criteria.
  • Recording all previously and newly identified sites, isolated finds (IFs), and isolated mining features (IMFs).
  • Conducting limited hand auger or shovel testing with COR approval.
  • Providing GIS data for all inventoried areas and recorded resources.
  • Preparing a professional quality Cultural Resource Inventory and Report, including site forms, photographic records, and field notes. The period of performance is from July 1, 2026, to September 30, 2027. The contractor is explicitly NOT to complete consultation with Native American groups or sign off on environmental documents.
