Fit reasons
- NAICS alignment with historical contract wins in similar service areas.
- Scope strongly matches core technical capabilities and delivery model.
Risks
- Past performance thresholds may require one additional teaming partner.
- Potential clarification needed on staffing minimums before bid/no-bid.
Next steps
Validate eligibility requirements, assign capture owner, and schedule partner outreach to confirm teaming strategy before submission planning.
Quick Summary
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), under the Department of Commerce, is conducting a Sources Sought market research to identify potential sources for a Single-mode 532 nm laser for their Brillouin Light Scattering Spectrometers. This laser is a critical component for high-speed metrology in magnetoelectronic devices. Responses are due March 24, 2026, at 2:00 PM ET.
Purpose & Scope
This notice is a market research tool to identify domestic, commercial sources capable of providing a specific laser. It is not a Request for Quote (RFQ) or a pre-solicitation notice, and no award will be made from this notice. NIST requires a replacement for an existing, failing Torus 532nm 200mW laser.
Key Requirements / Deliverables
NIST seeks one (1) Single-mode 532 nm laser, including all peripherals, cables, power supply, and a 2-year warranty, delivered FOB Destination. Key technical specifications include:
- Type: Diode-pumped solid state (DPSS) laser.
- Output Power: 250 mW at 532 nm.
- Interchangeability: Readily interchangeable with existing Novanta Torus 532nm 200mW system.
- Beam Characteristics: Beam diameter 1.5 mm to 1.9 mm; beam divergence < 0.5 mrad; beam output height <= 41 mm.
- Spectral Purity: Higher order modes suppressed by >= 95 dB compared to the fundamental mode within 30 GHz.
- Dimensions: Length < 14.5", Width < 5.6", must fit onto a 5.6" wide platform with output centered.
Submission & Evaluation
Respondents must provide documentation (e.g., brochures, manuals, reports, videos, customer identification) demonstrating how minimum requirements and technical specifications will be met. Responses should not merely repeat requirements. Required information includes company name/address, Point of Contact, teaming partners (if any), and classification of supply (COTS, modified COTS, prototype). Proprietary information should NOT be provided.
