Quick Summary
The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Detroit District has issued a Pre-Solicitation Notice for the fabrication and delivery of a replacement Miter Gate for the Poe Lock at the Soo Locks Complex in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. This is not a request for proposal, but an announcement of intent to solicit. The anticipated solicitation is Spring 2026, with an anticipated award in Summer/Fall 2026.
Scope of Work
The project requires contractors to provide all materials, labor, equipment, facilities, supervision, transportation, and administration necessary to fabricate and deliver the miter gate. The gate consists of two fabricated gate leafs and miscellaneous components. Each gate leaf must be delivered in one piece, with loose items shipped alongside. Delivery will necessitate barge transport to the Soo Locks Complex, where the Government will off-load the gate using its own cranes. Installation will be performed separately by others.
The gate leafs will primarily be of welded structural steel construction, utilizing various thicknesses of plates and structural steel shapes. Miscellaneous components may include forgings, castings, bushings, stainless steel, aluminum grating and handrail, and rubber seals. The gate leafs will be painted using the USACE vinyl paint system.
