Fit reasons
- NAICS alignment with historical contract wins in similar service areas.
- Scope strongly matches core technical capabilities and delivery model.
Risks
- Past performance thresholds may require one additional teaming partner.
- Potential clarification needed on staffing minimums before bid/no-bid.
Next steps
Validate eligibility requirements, assign capture owner, and schedule partner outreach to confirm teaming strategy before submission planning.
Quick Summary
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is conducting a Sources Sought for a 689nm Laser System. This is a market research effort to identify potential and eligible business firms, of all sizes, that can provide the specified product, and to determine potential Small Business Set-aside opportunities. Responses are due by May 18, 2026, at 5:00 PM ET.
Scope of Work
NIST seeks information on vendors capable of providing a 689nm Laser per detailed specifications. The required laser system must be tunable to a specific atomic transition in strontium at 689.44 nm, with an output power greater than 75 mW, a tuning range of > ± 1.5 nm, and a mode-hop-free tuning range of > 20 GHz. It also requires an instantaneous linewidth of < 10 kHz and frequency stability of < 100 MHz/K. Additionally, a dual-stage optical isolator with > 60 dB isolation and > 75% transmission is required. The requirement also includes specifications for planning, shipping, delivery, electronic media (GUI software, manuals), installation (vendor technician, rigging, setup), facility/utility considerations, a 12-month warranty, training, inspection/acceptance, and maintenance.
