Quick Summary

The Department of the Navy, specifically the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), is conducting a Sources Sought/Request for Information (RFI) to identify potential sources for the improvement, production, and retrofit of a Brake Bleeder Valve Protective Cap for F/A-18 and EA-18G aircraft. This effort aims to mitigate critical safety issues related to hydraulic system depletion. Responses are due by June 4, 2026.

Scope of Work

The RFI seeks solutions for a redesigned protective cap to prevent the backing out and departure of the Brake Bleeder Valve (PN 2611992-5), which has led to rapid hydraulic system depletion and potential loss of braking. The current design lacks a mechanical retention mechanism. The selected contractor will be responsible for designing a new protective cap configuration that accommodates safety wire, meets Brake Assembly performance specifications, and provides associated drawings/updates. The modification must not affect the form, fit, or hydraulic function of the existing valve. The government does not own the current drawings for PN 2611992-5. NAVAIR anticipates procuring up to 4,800 redesigned caps for retrofit, with an estimated start date in Q2 FY27.
