Fit reasons
- NAICS alignment with historical contract wins in similar service areas.
- Scope strongly matches core technical capabilities and delivery model.
Risks
- Past performance thresholds may require one additional teaming partner.
- Potential clarification needed on staffing minimums before bid/no-bid.
Next steps
Validate eligibility requirements, assign capture owner, and schedule partner outreach to confirm teaming strategy before submission planning.
Quick Summary
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) is conducting a Sources Sought / Request for Information (RFI) to identify vendors capable of providing one Electro-Magnetic Gradiometer Sensing System Hardware (EMG-SSH) device. This device must be sensitive between 50kHz-750kHz and capable of picotesla range measurements for detecting and mapping long linear subsurface conductors. Responses are due by May 26, 2026.
Purpose
This RFI is solely for market research and planning purposes to assess available sources and capabilities within the industry. ERDC aims to determine interest and potential competition before releasing a formal Request for Quote (RFQ) for the required EMG-SSH device. This is not a solicitation, and the Government does not intend to award a contract based on RFI responses.
Scope of Requirement
ERDC requires an EMG-SSH device with specific capabilities as detailed in the attached DRAFT Description of Requirement (DOR). Key components include a rugged, lightweight man-carry boom (approx. 1.75m, disassemblable, backpack-attachable), differential EMG receiver electronics (sealed, programmable 50kHz-750kHz, 10Hz accuracy, min two channels), matched electrically shielded Magnetic Dipole Antenna pairs, a small tablet computer, a mobile GPS navigation receiver (sub 20cm accuracy), and a rugged laptop. The system must detect secondary fields from long conductors (>100m) at picotesla range sensitivity and include software for frequency control, data acquisition, real-time display, and merging GPS/EMG data. Deliverables include the full system, design drawings, manuals, and in-person training. The total system weight should not exceed 30 lbs.
