Quick Summary

The University of California, on behalf of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), has issued Request for Proposal (RFP) No. AA-2026-01 for ALS-U Storage Ring (SR) Magnet Support Stud Kits. This opportunity is a Total Small Business Set-Aside and seeks qualified small businesses to produce kitted hardware essential for the precise vertical positioning of magnets in the Advanced Light Source Upgrade Project. Proposals are due by February 13, 2026.

Scope of Work

The selected contractor will be responsible for the production, procurement, kitting, packaging, and delivery of 2,022 vertical support positioning kits for the SR Magnets. Each kit includes specific components such as vertical studs (M16 to M24), nuts, spherical washers, thrust washers (oil-impregnated bronze or steel PTFE impregnated), and flat washers. Key deliverables include a Manufacturing Plan, assembled kits, Certificate of Conformance, Material Traceability, Kitting and Shipping Plans, a Shipping Schedule, and individual spare kits. Performance standards require Class 8.8 grade steel for studs and nuts, stainless spherical washers, and ensuring vibrational stability of <35nm rms >10Hz. Special requirements include completing a Supplier Quality Evaluation Survey, maintaining a QA program, and possessing a mechanical Coordinate Measurement Machine (CMM) or equivalent.

Contract Details

This will be a Fixed-Price Subcontract. Ordered items must be delivered 8 Weeks After Receipt of Order (ARO). Payment terms specify invoices payable within 15 days of receipt, with full payment after final acceptance. The subcontract requires adherence to environmental sustainability practices, including the use of environmentally preferable products, waste minimization, compliance with the California Toxics in Packaging Prevention Act, and the UC Sustainable Practices Policy, explicitly prohibiting foam packaging. Technical data requires University approval prior to performance.
