Quick Summary

The Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), under the National Institutes of Health, has issued a Sources Sought notice for Standardized Micro- and Nano- Plastics. This market research aims to identify industry capabilities to provide specific micro- and nanoplastic (MNP) materials to support ARPA-H's technology research and development activities. Responses are due March 25, 2026.

Scope of Work

ARPA-H is seeking vendors capable of providing MNP materials with specific attributes for a projected annual quantity of 5-10 grams over five years. Key requirements include:

  • Size Distribution: Centering at approximately 150 nm, with additional categories for < 200 nm, 200 nm - 1 µm, and 1 µm - 5 µm.
  • Shape: Irregular, non-spherical, and fibers.
  • Chemical Composition: Single MNP types, such as polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), nylon 6 (Ny-6), polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), polyurethane (PU), and styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR).
  • Additives: Standard additives found in typical consumer products are acceptable.

  • A concise technical description of current proven capabilities in MNP synthesis/manufacturing and characterization methods, including any required R&D timelines.
  • Indication of interest in responding to a future Request for Proposal (RFP) as a prime or subcontractor, and information on subcontracting possibilities.
  • Descriptions of at least two relevant past contracts/orders within the last 36 months or prior performance summaries.
  • Details of any active U.S. Government contracts/orders.
  • A rough estimate or cost range of the annual cost and estimated lead time for delivery post-award. Responses must not exceed 3 pages, single-spaced, 12-point font, with 1-inch margins.
