Statement of Work (SOW) / Performance Work Statement (PWS)

To permanently decommission and abandon four historic wells located at the Jean Baptiste Valle House and Kern House within Ste. Genevieve National Historical Park, MO. The wells require immediate stabilization and repair to prevent further damage and ensure safety.

• Decommissioning and abandonment of four historic wells, each approximately 25-75 feet deep and 3.5 feet in diameter.

• Specific Wells:

  • Jean Baptiste Valle Well: Inspect and repair limestone cap and above-grade limestone wall.

• Mixing: Cementitious materials and sand to be measured dry and mixed in a clean, mechanical batch mixer. Pointing mortar to be mixed to a damp, unworkable consistency and used within one hour.

• Repointing: Rake out joints to a depth of joint width plus 1/8 inch (3 mm), but not less than required to expose sound mortar. Do not remove unsound mortar more than 2 inches (50 mm) deep without COR direction. Prepare reveals with square backs. Clean joints with low-pressure water spray.

• Application: Apply pointing mortar in layers not greater than 3/8 inch (9 mm), compacting each layer and allowing it to become thumbprint hard before applying the next. Tool joints to match original appearance.

• Curing: Maintain mortar in a thoroughly damp condition for at least 72 consecutive hours.
