Purpose

Scope of Work

The project involves the replacement of the existing steam tunnel ventilation system at the NIST Boulder Campus, Building 42. Key tasks include:

  • Demolition: Removal of existing exterior pad-mounted supply fans, associated ductwork, controls, steam and steam condensate piping, insulation, valves, hangers, and condensate pump.
  • New Installation: Procurement and installation of two new natural gas indirect fired Make-Up Air Units (MAUs), associated ductwork, natural gas piping, trenching, and JCI controls interface. Installation of electric unit heaters and associated controls.
  • Structural Work: Extension of the existing exterior equipment housekeeping pad and concrete repair/sealing.
  • Electrical Work: Disconnection of existing fans, connection of new MAU, provision of electrical connections for unit heaters, new circuit breakers, and panelboard labeling.
  • Control Systems: Implementation of control sequences for electric unit heaters, CO2 monitoring, and MAUs, including integration with a Building Management System (BMS) via BACnet MSTP.
  • Commissioning: Provision of commissioning services for new equipment and controls in compliance with ASHRAE and NEBB standards.
  • Permits: Adherence to NIST Boulder Campus permit requirements for roof access, penetration, hot work, fire protection system impairment, and excavation.
