- Dimensional Specifications: Flat at the bottom of Stem, Piece 23, must be 1 15/16 inches. Nylon Plug, Piece 11, dimensions are 1/8 inch diameter and 3/32 inch long (+1/64 / -0).
- Material Requirements: Stem material must be QQ-N-286, Form 2, Annealed and Age Hardened, requiring quantitative chemical and mechanical analysis. Stem Retaining Nut, Piece 24, material is ASTM-B505, Alloy UNS C90300 (no quantitative analysis required). No weld repair is allowed on QQ-N-286 material.
- Testing & Certification: Required tests include Annealing and Age Hardening, Ultrasonic Inspection (for QQ-N-286 material >= 4 inches diameter), and Dye Penetrant Inspection for the Stem's external surface. Thread inspection must follow FED-STD-H28 series, with System 21 as a minimum. Slow Strain Rate Tensile Tests for QQ-N-286 must be performed by approved laboratories.
- Quality Assurance: Contractors must maintain a quality system in accordance with ISO-9001 (or MIL-I-45208 as an alternate) and calibration systems per ISO-10012 or ANSI-Z540.3 with ISO-17025 (or MIL-STD-45662 as an alternate). Government Quality Assurance at the source is required, and contractors must notify DCMA upon award.
