The item is designated as Level I Special Emphasis Material, requiring stringent quality control to prevent failure in critical shipboard systems.

Key Requirements

  • Material Certification & Testing: Quantitative chemical and mechanical analysis is required. Specific tests include Annealing, Age Hardening, and Ultrasonic Inspection on starting material. Slow Strain Rate Tensile Tests for QQ-N-286 must be performed by approved laboratories.
  • Quality System: Contractors must maintain a quality system compliant with ISO-9001 (or MIL-I-45208 as an alternate) and calibration system requirements of ISO-10012 or ANSI-Z540.3 with ISO-17025 (or MIL-STD-45662 as an alternate).
