Quick Summary

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is conducting market research via a Request for Information (RFI) to identify vendors capable of providing 5.56mm/.223 caliber suppressors, muzzle devices, and training suppressors. This RFI aims to gather information to formulate final requirements for a future Request for Proposal (RFP). Responses are due February 20, 2026.

Scope of Work

The FBI is seeking preliminary characteristics for suppressors compatible with its 5.56 NATO carbines (direct gas impingement, 11.5" barrel, 1/2x28 muzzle thread). Key requirements include a low back pressure or high flow rate design with separate gas venting, a minimum 10 dB sound reduction when fired with FBI service ammunition, minimal point of impact shift, and consistent repeatability after removal and reinstallation. Physical specifications include a maximum 6" added length, 20 ounces weight, and 1.8" diameter. Desired features are a quick-detach (QD) design with a positive lock and non-modular construction. Suppressors must be warrantied for no less than 10,000 rounds and available in Flat Dark Earth (or similar) and black with a matte finish. Training suppressors should mimic the main suppressor's appearance, diameter, length, and weight, utilize the same QD mount and positive lock, be blue, and be compatible with FBI's existing 5.56 NATO carbines using UTM or Simunition conversion bolts and non-lethal training rounds.

Evaluation

Responses will inform the FBI's acquisition strategy and final requirements. The FBI may consider objective characteristics such as weight, length, diameter, Decibel reduction, suppressor shift, repeatability, and functional reliability. Sample submissions may be evaluated if a solicitation is subsequently released.

Additional Notes

This is not a solicitation or an offer to contract, and no funds are available for response preparation. Submissions should include company information, business size, GSA Schedule status, product details (make/model, characteristics, dB reduction, shift, repeatability, price), place of manufacture, and any comments or concerns. Do not submit proposals, offers, past performance, or requests for award notification.
