Quick Summary
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District, is conducting market research via a Sources Sought notice for the repair and rehabilitation of Tainter Valves at The Dalles Lock and Dam (TDA) and John Day Lock and Dam (JDA). This effort aims to identify industry capabilities for addressing structural issues on these critical components. The estimated magnitude of construction is $1,000,000.00 to $5,000,000.00. Responses are due May 20, 2026, at 3:00 pm PDT.
Scope of Work
The project involves comprehensive rehabilitation of at least one Tainter Valve at TDA and two at JDA. This includes addressing weld cracking, cavitation damage, corrosion, and paint system failure. The scope covers removal, handling, transport to a fabrication shop, structural and weld repair (to AWS D1.1 standards), replacement of seals, seal plates, and hardware, installation of new 'armor' plate sections, and replacement of oversized self-lubricating bushings. As-built dimensional control surveys are required at multiple stages, along with coordination for reinstallation within active Navigation Locks. Specific material requirements include Belzona 1111 (Super Metal) or an approved equal for bearing housing repair.
