Statement of Work (SOW) / Performance Work Statement (PWS)

To control yellow starthistle and medusahead at Magnolia Ranch using targeted sheep grazing, with the goal of reducing noxious weed density and increasing native vegetation.

• Targeted grazing area: Approximately 130 acres within the Magnolia Ranch Recreation Area.

• Grazing period: Spring and summer, with an active performance period from May 1st to August 30th annually.

• Herd size: Minimum of 500 mature sheep.

• Grazing method: High-intensity, short-term grazing confined by temporary poly-wire electric fencing.

• Contractor responsibilities: Provide herd, water (via water truck), temporary fencing, a full-time herder with livestock guardian dogs (LGDs) and herding dogs, and self-contained mobile housing.

• Weed cleansing: Livestock must be cleansed with weed-free forage or grazed in an approved weed-free off-site area for 5 days prior to arrival, especially for specific invasive weeds.

• Primary forage: Invasive annual grasses, yellow starthistle, and medusahead.

• Goal: Reduction in weed cover.

• Reporting: Contractor shall submit an actual use report at the end of the grazing period detailing stocking rate and duration.

• Quality Assurance: No woody species shall be consumed or damaged. Watering and bedding will not occur in mapped archaeological areas.

• Location: Magnolia Ranch Recreation Area, Pilot Hill, CA.
