REQUEST FOR SOURCES SOUGHT (RFS)

1. INTRODUCTION

The Department of Army, RIA-JMTC, is conducting market research to identify qualified sources capable of manufacturing universal joints. This Request for Sources Sought (RFS) is issued for informational purposes only and does not constitute a Request for Proposal (RFP) or a promise to issue an RFP in the future. The information received will be used to assess the availability of qualified vendors and to develop a future acquisition strategy. This RFS supports the manufacturing of self-propelled artillery.

2. SCOPE OF WORK

The Department of Army, RIA-JMTC anticipates a requirement for the manufacturing of two precision gears. The following capabilities are of interest:

  • Breaking load: Static torque rating of 9000 in-lbs. compression or tension load 10,000 lbs. min.
  • Materials: Steel alloy per ASTM A340 (must meet the drawing requirement breaking load).
  • Certificate of Conformance: Stating steel utilized conforms to specification ASTM A304 and product meets all requirements of drawing.
  • Spline feature: internal involute spline, per drawings 10953657 and 10953661 data tables.
  • Precision Requirements: Tight tolerances (±0.005” or better) may be required on certain features.
  • Manufacturing Processes: CNC spline, grinding, shaping, and milling.
  • Finish Requirements: Finish 5.3.1.3 is a heavy manganese class 3 phosphate coating without supplemental oil and 5.3.2.3 is a heavy zinc class 3 phosphate coating without see note 5
  • Quality Assurance provisions: Drawing 13101232 applies to both drawings. 
  • Note 9 on both drawings will be administered by RIA-JMTC.
