Questions & Answers / Clarifications

• Sandblasting: Garnet is acceptable for sandblasting aluminum. Dock trials are necessary before sea trials.
• Pressure Washing: The maximum pressure for washing the hull is 2,500 PSI, due to the age of the aluminum hull. This supersedes previous specifications.
• Interior Interferences: There are no known interferences in the vessel's interior for the UT survey. Drawings of the vessel interior can be provided to the awardee.
• Epoxy Primer: The specification for Intersleek 700 tie coat and topcoat only is insufficient for corrosion protection. Intershield 300V epoxy & Interspeed 5640 black, then red, is recommended and would be acceptable. Propspeed application on the rudder is also acceptable.
• Valve Testing: The test for valves using city water pressure is acceptable, even if not exactly 50 PSI. The correct valve sizes are: main engine valves are 3” ball valves, and generator/air conditioner valves are 1" ball valves. This information is reflected in the revised PWS.
• Rudder Seals: The rudders have lip seals, not packing glands. These lip seals should be replaced in kind, as per the revised PWS.
