USCGC WALNUT MARINE REDUCTION GEAR TROUBLESHOOT AND REPAIR

Statement of Work (SOW) / Performance Work Statement (PWS)

To obtain a qualified technician from Philadelphia Gear to provide expert technical assistance for troubleshooting a significant operational leak in the main reduction gear and to oversee the replacement of the High Speed (HS) Shaft Aft Seals onboard the CGC WALNUT (WLB-205).

The contractor technician will provide expert technical guidance and assistance to Coast Guard personnel for troubleshooting and correcting a leak in the main reduction gear. This includes oversight of the inspection and replacement of the HS Shaft Aft seals, following procedures outlined in the Philadelphia Gear Technical Manual TPN: 3523, SWBS: 241-A.

Key phases of work include:

• Removal and Disassembly: Guiding the ship's force in de-energizing engines, securing the gear, and removing components like the clutch guard, air manifold, clutch assembly, and adapter plate.

• Cleaning: Overseeing the cleaning of disassembled parts with appropriate solvents and brushes, adhering to safety warnings.

• Inspection: Assisting in the inspection of removed components, specifically checking seal lands for damage and rubber seals for defects.

• Repair: Guiding the replacement of any defective rubber seal components.

• Installation: Overseeing the correct installation of new components, including seals, spacers, caps, and reassembling the clutch guard and lubrication system.

• The technician will provide technical assistance, oversight, and quality assurance.

• Submit root cause analysis and findings reports.

• Place of Performance: Onboard CGC WALNUT (WLB-205), 211 South Ave Ste C, Pensacola, FL 32508.

• Period of Performance: Expected to take place from March 6, 2026, to March 16, 2026.

• Contractor must provide one (1) qualified field service technician with expertise in the Philadelphia Gear 96DHCMG-CP reduction gear.

• The Coast Guard will provide all necessary materials, parts, seals, tools, and support personnel.

• The Coast Guard is responsible for providing a safe work environment and final testing.
