Statement of Work (SOW)

To drill, develop, and test a new 4-inch diameter cased artesian water supply well at the Eastern Virginia Rivers National Wildlife Refuge.

• Drill a new 4-inch diameter cased artesian water supply well.

• The well shall be capable of delivering a safe yield of 10 gallons per minute of clean, fresh, potable water.

• Estimated depth will be determined in the field, with potential to reach 800 feet with facility manager approval.

• Location to be determined based on site conditions and Virginia Department of Health requirements.

• Contractor to provide a proposal for drilling and appurtenant work.

• Coordinate and pay for required Well Construction permits from the local State Health Department and any other authorized agencies.

• Perform work in accordance with State of Virginia Regulations and American National Standards Institute/American Water Works Association.

• Submit manufacturer's data for well screen, construction methods, materials, and product data for pitless adapter and pump.

• Comply with OSHA requirements.

• Well Casing: 4" diameter Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) pipe conforming to ASTM F480, watertight.

• Well Screen: Continuous slot, factory wound type, V-shaped PVC wire, solvent welded joints. Screen length to be determined and agreed upon. Selection based on soil sieve analysis.

• Pitless Adapter: Standard pitless case, watertight cap, 4" plain spool with "0" ring seals, dresser type coupling.

• Well Pump: Submersible, 10 GPM capacity, designed for 4" SDR 17 casing. Motor to be minimum 1/2 HP, single phase, 60 HZ A.C., with lightning protection and auto-reset thermal overload.

• Detectable Warning Tape: Acid- and alkali-resistant, 6-inch wide, 4 mils thick, inscribed with utility description, metallic core, detectable by metal detector. Red for electric, Blue for water systems.

• Appurtenant Items: Contractor to furnish and install all components for a fully operational well system.

• Electrical: Provide and install electrical power wiring and components to connect the pump to the electrical supply, complying with National Electric Code (NEC). Estimated distance to power source is 10 feet. Underground wiring to be direct burial, #10 copper conductor or larger, UF cable, 24" deep, with warning tape 12" below finished grade.

• Develop well using approved methods to ensure clear water free from sand.

• Test well for yield and drawdown using a 10 GPM pump for two hours after water level stabilizes.

• Disinfect well with a chlorine solution (minimum 50 PPM) after testing and before sample collection.

• Provide a daily log of materials passed through and depths.

• Submit samples to a certified laboratory for chemical and microbiological analysis.

• Provide a final water well completion report including well log, casing/screen record, pumping test data, and analysis results.
