The purpose of this project is to install a new emergency closure system at the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, Lake Washington Ship Canal, Seattle, WA. An emergency closure structure is any device designed to be placed in rapidly flowing water under differential head to prevent the loss of pool if the lock miter gates are damaged and can no longer function to control the pool. An emergency closure system consists of a closure structure and all the associated equipment necessary to install the closure structure in flowing water.
