Quick Summary

The National Park Service (NPS), on behalf of Yellowstone National Park, is soliciting proposals for the refurbishment of Fire Engine 4, a 2005 Pierce Contender. This Unrestricted acquisition aims to extend the engine's service life by 15 years. Proposals are due February 18, 2026, at 1300 MS.

Scope of Work

The comprehensive refurbishment includes:

  • Engine & Driveline: Cooling system upgrade, engine/driveline inspection, brake replacement, seals/bearings replacement, and chassis suspension updates.
  • Lighting & Electrical: Removal of gas generator, replacement of scene lights with 12V LED, and all emergency lights with LED equivalents. Installation of thermal imaging camera charger, GPS, gas monitor charger, and a 6-way fuse block.
  • Structural & Safety: Repair of impact damage, NFPA compliance updates (chevrons, reflective striping, heavy-duty aluminum wheels, windshields, seat belts, and five in-seat SCBA brackets with SmartDock Gen II).
  • Fire Pump System: Evaluation of engineer's panel gauges, inspection of plumbing for leaks, rebuild or replacement of all plumbing valves and drains with the same brand, and an update to the Waterous VPO electric priming system.
  • Optional Work: Pricing is required for potential pump rebuild, pump transmission rebuild, foam pump rebuild/replacement, battery replacement, tire replacement, and pump panel gauges, contingent on inspection findings.

  • Set-Aside: Unrestricted
  • NAICS: 811114 (Small Engine Repair, $9M size standard)

Submissions must be emailed to Sharon_larosa@nps.gov.

Key Clarifications (Amendment 0001)

The engine cab has six seats, with five equipped with SCBA brackets. Photos of the pump panel tag and VIN tag are attached. Current tire sizes are front 315/80R 22.5 and rear 12R22.5, though tire replacement is not part of this rebuild as they have already been replaced by the park.
