Quick Summary
The National Park Service (NPS), under the Department of the Interior, is soliciting proposals for a Firm Fixed-Price contract for Trail Replacement at Indiana Dunes National Park. This Total Small Business Set-Aside opportunity involves the demolition of approximately 1,500 linear feet of existing boardwalks and staircases and the construction of new, compliant structures. The estimated value of the project is between $1M and $3M. Proposals are due June 16, 2026, at 12:00 PM ET.
Scope of Work
The project requires the complete demolition and removal of existing deteriorating wooden boardwalks, staircases, structural framing, columns, and foundations. New construction will utilize modular boardwalk systems (Wickcraft or approved equal) with galvanized steel structural framing and Trex Transend decking (or approved equal). All structures must meet International Building Code (IBC) standards for a 100 psf pedestrian load, include 42-inch high guardrails, and feature anti-slip treads on all ramps and steps. Foundations will consist of 20-foot deep helical piles or 12x12-inch steel base plates in wetland areas.
The scope includes a Base Bid for the full replacement and a Bid Option 1 for new boardwalk and ramps along a specific alignment. The contractor will also be responsible for providing 9 benches and 2 signs, and transporting materials from Mount Baldy, Michigan City (approximately 18.7 miles away). Environmental protection measures, such as temporary ground protection mats, are mandatory, with ground disturbance limited to a 12-foot width. Specific tree and shrub clearing is outlined, with tree removal restricted to October 1st through March 31st. No geotechnical reports, soil reports, SWPPP, or permits are required for this project.
