Quick Summary
The U.S. Forest Service (USDA Agriculture) is re-issuing a Request for Information (RFI) for the End of the World Long Term Stewardship project in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest, Grangeville, ID. This RFI seeks feedback on draft solicitation materials for a potential 10-year G-Z Integrated Resource Stewardship Contract. A site visit is scheduled for October 30, 2025, and feedback on the shared draft documents is currently being accepted.
Project Overview & Scope
The initiative aims to reduce risks from insect/disease infestation and wildfires, and to restore forest vegetation and water quality across approximately 17,000 gross acres (with a Record of Decision detailing treatments across 49,565 acres). The project anticipates offering 50+ MMBF of commercial timber. Service work may include road maintenance, reconditioning, construction, and decommissioning; timber removal (tractor, skyline, shovel, tether systems); timber sale preparation; temporary road construction; low value stand treatment (PCT, mastication); biomass removal; and slash piling/fuel break treatments. Detailed road design activities are excluded.
Anticipated Contract Terms
The long-term contract is expected to be up to 10 years. Minimum timber value estimates will be based on Forest Service appraisal. Service work payments are anticipated by acre, ton, or linear foot, with road work potentially by mile or contract quantity. Product value will offset service work costs. Davis-Bacon wages will apply to road construction, and Service Contract Act wages to non-construction services. Road construction will require bonding.
Key Documents & Feedback
Draft solicitation materials, including a detailed overview, project timeline, anticipated orders, and various maps (vicinity, detail, and specific sale area maps for Ski Bird, Free Bird, Cold Fir, Wooly Bully, Jungle Bird), have been shared for review. These documents provide an early look at potential requirements and scope. Feedback, comments, or questions on these draft materials are explicitly welcomed and will directly inform the design and feasibility of future solicitations.
Timeline & Next Steps
A site visit is scheduled for October 30, 2025, in Grangeville, ID, to discuss the project. Following feedback and contract preparation in Winter 2025/2026, a formal solicitation is anticipated in Spring 2026, with an award in Summer/Fall 2026. This RFI is for planning purposes only and does not obligate the Government to any contract award.
