Quick Summary

The National Park Service (NPS) is soliciting proposals for construction services at two historic sites: George Washington Birthplace National Monument (GEWA) in Colonial Beach, VA, and Thomas Stone National Historic Site (THST) in Port Tobacco, MD. This opportunity is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) Set Aside. The project involves significant repair and alteration work, including roof replacement and gutter installation at THST, and brick repointing and gutter installation at GEWA. The estimated magnitude of the contract is between $250,000.00 and $500,000.00. Proposals are due June 12, 2026, at 12:00 PM local time.

Scope of Work

The project encompasses distinct tasks for each location:

  • George Washington Birthplace National Monument (GEWA): Repairing deteriorating mortar joints on the exterior brick surfaces of the Memorial House Museum and Colonial Revival Kitchen. This includes analyzing and matching original mortar, hand-tool removal of deteriorated mortar, and repointing with lime-based mortar. Additionally, new 20 oz. copper, 6-inch seamless half-round gutters and 3-inch plain round downspouts will be installed. Bidders must demonstrate 5 years of experience in masonry and gutter installation.
  • Thomas Stone National Historic Site (THST): Replacing the existing exposed-fastener corrugated metal roof and installing new seamless gutters and downspouts on the Visitor's Center building. This involves removing the old roof, inspecting and replacing damaged sheathing, installing a new "Vertical Seam" snap seam metal roofing system with high-temperature underlayment, and "K-Style" seamless gutters. Contractors must have experience installing standing seam metal roofing. Both sites require maintaining public access, daily site clean-up, and adherence to specified work hours.
