Statement of Work (SOW)

To replace the existing exposed-fastener corrugated metal roof and install new seamless gutters and downspouts on the Thomas Stone National Historic Site (THST) visitor center building.

• Remove and dispose of the existing metal roof, underlayment, damaged sheathing boards, and associated flashing.

• Inspect and replace damaged roof decking (sheathing boards) as needed.

• Install a new "Vertical Seam" snap seam metal roofing system.

• Install high-temperature resistance self-adhered membrane underlayment.

• Install "K-Style" seamless gutters and downspouts.

• Increase the pitch of two flat roof sections by framing and installing 5/8-inch CDX plywood sheathing.

• Install snow guards.

• Install colored EPDM pipe boot flashings.

• Maintain public access to the visitor center during demolition and installation.

• Perform daily site clean-up and debris disposal.

• The new "Vertical Seam" standing seam metal roof system must be installed according to the manufacturer's specifications.

• Underlayment must be high-temperature resistant (minimum 240° F), minimum 40 mil thickness, smooth surfaced, and approved for use under metal roofing.

• Snow guards must be installed in a staggered pattern.

• Gutters and downspouts must meet specified dimensions and color.

• A two-year on-call basis warranty for all work performed, covering defects in materials and workmanship.

• The painted finish on the Snap Seam metal roofing has a 50-year paint warranty.

• Location: Thomas Stone NHS, 6655 Rose Hill Road, Port Tobacco, Maryland 20677.

• Period of Performance: 60 calendar days after Notice to Proceed is issued.

• Regular Working Hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. No work on Saturdays, Sundays, or federal holidays without authorization.

• Contractor must provide evidence of past work experience installing standing seam metal roofing.

• Contractor must establish and maintain a Quality Control Plan.

• Workers must present themselves professionally.

• No smoking in park-owned facilities (designated smoking area will be provided).

• Site visit is strongly encouraged.

• Contractor is responsible for staging, storage, and disposal of all materials and debris.

• Protect park facilities from damage.

• Submit a Construction Schedule, Schedule of Values, Accident Prevention/Safety Plan, Project Superintendent designation, List of Subcontractors, and Product and Materials at least 10 days prior to the preconstruction conference.

Statement of Work (SOW)

To repair deteriorating mortar joints on the exterior brick surfaces of the Memorial House Museum (MHM) and the Colonial Revival Kitchen (CRK) at George Washington Birthplace National Monument, and to install new half-round copper gutters and downspouts on both buildings.

• Repointing Brickwork: Analyze mortar samples to determine the original mix, develop a matching mortar, and provide mockups for approval. Clean brick surfaces using D/2 Biological Solution. Remove deteriorated mortar joints by hand tools only. Repoint joints using an approved Lime-Based Mortar. Protect adjacent materials and ensure worker safety. No pressure washers are allowed for cleaning.

• Gutter Installation: Install new 20 oz. copper, 6-inch seamless half-round gutters and 3-inch plain round downspouts on both buildings. Gutters will be pitched from the center to drain at both ends. Downspouts will be attached to outlets with a watertight fit and secured with copper straps. All joints and connections will be soldered. The system will be tested for proper flow and drainage away from the foundation.

• General Requirements: Maintain public access to buildings, perform daily site clean-up and debris disposal. Work hours are Monday-Friday, 7 am to 3:30 pm. The period of performance is 60 calendar days after Notice to Proceed.

• Mortar mix must match the prevalent mortar in color and texture.

• Gutter and downspout installation must ensure a watertight fit and proper drainage.

• Work must comply with OSHA regulations for scaffolding and ladders.

• A one-year on-call warranty for all work performed is required, with a two-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.

• Period: 60 calendar days after Notice to Proceed.
