Quick Summary

The U.S. Space Force (USSF) Space Systems Command (SSC) has released a Request for Prototype Proposal (RPP) FA872325RB003 for Ground Based Radar Digitization (GBRD). This critical modernization effort, executed jointly with the Missile Defense Agency (MDA), seeks full solutions to upgrade eight globally positioned ground-based radars. The program aims to improve Space Domain Awareness (SDA), Missile Warning/Tracking (MW/MT), and Missile Defense (MD) capabilities. Proposals are due May 29, 2026.

Scope of Work

The GBRD program will modernize aging radar systems, including five UEWRs, PARCS, COBRA DANE, and the Eglin Site C-6 Radar, which face obsolescence and sustainment challenges. The modernization encompasses the entire radar system, from antenna front-end to back-end data processors and communication systems, instituting a government-owned, modular open systems architecture. The goal is to transform data repositories into actionable intelligence for proactive threat responses and optimized resource allocation.

Contract & Timeline

  • Set-Aside: None specified.
  • Proposal Due: May 29, 2026.
  • Published: May 7, 2026 (Revised).
  • Place of Performance: Colorado Springs, CO, United States.
  • Product Service Code: AC12 (National Defense R&D Services; Department Of Defense Military; Applied Research).

Approach & Evaluation

Leveraging the Middle Tier of Acquisition (MTA) Rapid Prototyping pathway, the GBRD program will develop and demonstrate a new, common digital baseline on an initial subset of four radar sites before rapid fielding. The acquisition is based on a "compete and collaborate" model: multiple offerors will execute the program in parallel, competing on individual designs while collaborating on a common, government-owned architectural baseline. All offerors will operate within a single Authoritative Digital Ecosystem (ADE), with designs objectively assessed by an independent Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) Validator. This structure aims to drive commonality, de-risk development, and establish a resilient, multi-vendor industrial base.

Access to Documents

A Bidder's Library is available upon request to eligible companies authorized to access unclassified export-controlled technical data/critical technology. Companies must provide an approved DD Form 2345 (Militarily Critical Technical Data Agreement) obtained via the DLA Joint Certification Program. Requests must include company name, CAGE Code, UEI, two POCs for unclassified exchanges, two POCs for classified exchanges, role (Prime, Subcontractor), and a copy of the approved DD2345. Allow 2 business days for processing.
