  • Noise monitoring and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) recommendations for hearing conservation.
  • Annual qualitative and quantitative respirator fit testing.
  • Development and maintenance of a comprehensive radiation safety program.
  • Rapid, 24/7 on-call response to safety, occupational health, and environmental concerns, including hazardous materials incidents.
  • Annual reviews of existing Safety, Occupational Health, and Environmental Management (SHEM) Unit programs.
  • Serving as the primary point of contact for the Occupational Medical Surveillance Program (OMSP) enrollment.
  • Annual industrial hygiene inspections of laboratories, facilities, and administrative spaces.
  • Acting as the Chemical Hygiene Officer (CHO), managing chemical inventory, and overseeing the Chemical Hygiene Plan.

Key Requirements & Qualifications

The consultant is expected to work 40 hours per week, onsite Monday through Friday, with potential for adjusted schedules for non-standard hours or emergencies. Required qualifications include:

  • A bachelor's degree in a STEM field (chemistry, biology, physics, environmental engineering, or similar).
  • Minimum 4 years of professional, full-time experience in industrial hygiene, with Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) accreditation highly desired.
  • Demonstrated hands-on knowledge of various industrial hygiene monitoring instruments.
  • Personnel will require a background check and PIV card.

Additional Notes

No Maryland-specific training is required for the Radiation Safety Officer role at this federal facility. A part-time Industrial Hygienist will not be considered a substitute for one full-time CIH. Routine weekend work and 24/7 on-call support are not expected, but the IH may be called in for emergencies or agreed-upon sampling needs. All offerors must be actively registered in SAM.gov.
