Quick Summary
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), under the Department of the Interior, is soliciting proposals for Marine Trailer Repair (J025) for its Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center. This opportunity seeks a contractor to perform a comprehensive rebuild of a 10-year-old oversized marine boat trailer. The objective is to restore structural integrity, modernize mechanical systems, and improve reliability and safety for scientific operations. Proposals are due May 12, 2026, at 8:00 AM Pacific Time.
Scope of Work
The project involves a full mechanical and structural rebuild of an oversized marine boat trailer. Key requirements include:
- Axles: Replace existing 9,000 lb axles with three (3) new, 10,000 lb capacity marine-rated spring axles with disc brakes. New axles must be converted with "Air-Tight" 10k pressurized and sealed hub protection kits.
- Braking System: Replace with new electric-over-hydraulic disc brake components compatible with 10,000 lb axles. Vendors should recommend brake size/specifications appropriate for a 25,000 lb vessel load.
- Suspension: Install new springs with the complete axle assembly.
- Electrical System: Inspect and replace as needed to ensure full DOT compliance, utilizing sealed submersible components.
- Bunks & Hull Support: Inspect, reuse intact components, and replace elements compromising safe transport or structural support. Replace plastic fender covers with rigid fenders.
- Safety Equipment: Inspect and replace defective or worn winch, breakaway brake system, safety chains, and tie-down hardware.
- Coatings: Strip and reapply marine-grade protective coatings.
- Deliverables: One rebuilt trailer, inspection/certification report, post-rebuild operational checklist/test log, and detailed parts/service documentation.
